Program & Treatment Overview

Program Overview

Eagle Valley Youth Ranch is a residential treatment program that provides care for young women ages 12 through 17. Our staff provides 24-hour, 7-days-a-week supervision as we support change and reinforce rules in an environment of respect and concern.

Family Representatives

As each girl enters the program she is assigned a family representative, who will work directly with the teen, the treatment team, and the family. The family representative keeps all parties informed and tracks a student’s points, appointments, and mail.

Group Living

Group living is an important aspect of the program. Group living helps students develop important coping and communication skills and provides them with support for change. Each room at Eagle Valley Youth Ranch will accommodate two students, which gives our students plenty of time to dress and prepare for their daily activities.

Agriculture Care

Troubled Teen Girls: Agriculture

Each young woman is given a garden to care for. As the teens nurture their gardens, they begin to understand the hardships of caring for something other than themselves. The responsibility of caring for a living thing encourages empathy, personal growth, respect for others and self, and leadership skills.

Life Skills

Learning important life skills is one of the most important components of our program. Education in life skills helps ensure that girls grow emotionally through the program in multiple ways. Teaching and encouraging life skills also gives greater assurance of a successful return home by building trust, responsibility, teamwork, and self-esteem.

Astronomy Skills and Tracking

Another fundamental part of our treatment program is the lessons in trust and self-confidence our students discover as they learn the stories and myths associated with the stars and constellations. The young women are given opportunities to participate in star gazing, compass use, and tracking. Upper-level girls learn how to navigate the local terrain using the stars and celestial heavens as a compass along with other useful, wilderness techniques.

Self-Defense

Program for Troubled Teen Girls

To help our students develop safety and peace of mind, each girl participates in a self-defense class, taught by our vice president Travis LeFevre. As a Black Belt, Travis has practiced and trained in Aiki Jutsu for more than 15 years. He helps young ladies learn to recognize dangerous situations and how to defend themselves if necessary. This class focuses primarily on preventing confrontation through communication and diplomacy, teaching students to react physically only in self-defense. Armed with the ability to defend themselves from both verbal and physical attacks, teens increase in self-confidence, discipline, and self-worth.

This class is offered to upper-level students only after parental consent and clinical director’s permission.

Daily Reflections

All activities are monitored around the clock by our caring staff, and students are asked to reflect upon their day in our Reflections meeting. Family Representatives attend these meetings and guide the girls through the process.
